Director's Update - April 2013

Jericho Christian Television is getting prepared for the Spring and Summer Camping Season with an all new retooling of our camping, video and computer equipment.  These changes will increase our safety and convenience during the camping season.  Let's take a couple of minutes of your time to highlight the most significant of the changes.
First, I started the retool by replacing the traditional tent with a 6' X 10' Utility Trailer that has been converted to provide me with a couch that converts to a bed along with a  galley for food preparation.  Amenities in the  galley are simple.  A small microwave oven  is being used for heating food rather than a propane camp stove.  In an effort to recycle, I used a chuck box purchased a couple years ago. While small, the chuck box provides ample storage for cups, glasses, bowls, etc.  One advantage of using the chuck box is a front door that drops down to make a table. The microwave oven as well as the coffee maker sit atop the chuck box.   Storage for perishables  is possible by using a marine ice chest/cooler. Consumables are stored in plastic boxes stored under the couch/bed.

Next in the upgrade was to install a computer that has lots of computing, processing and storage capabilities. Vendor selected was Dell.  A computer desk was built for the computer and monitor.  I never had an adequate work area when working out of a tent. I now have sufficient area to work comfortably inside the trailer.  I still will use a laptop when outside of the trailer, however I anticipate that the majority of my work will be done inside the trailer. Another problem that I have solved is lighting of my work area.  Inside the tent, options were limited but now I have built in lighting for the desk and my work area.  One of my biggest concerns over the years was the security of the cameras and computer.  Problem is now solved what with double locks on the trailer doors.

Lastly is the satellite uplink that allows me to send photos and video in place where there is no WiFi or Cellular Service.  Service is slower than WiFi or Cellular but is fast enough to let us stream low bandwidth video, surf the Internet and send and receive e-mails. The satellite antenna is auto seek and auto store.  A very special friend donated the antenna and hardware to Jericho Christian Television.  We have elected not to mount the antenna on a vehicle but rather have created a mobile platform that is stored in the back of the pickup truck.  The mobile/portable platform is deployed once I arrive at my camping spot. This allows for us to move the antenna out from under the tree for acquisition of the satellite that we are assigned while leaving the trailer in the shade.  I hope to be able to post a photo of the platform at a later time.

Director's Update

Spring 2012 has arrived a little early to Northeast Louisiana and so has the tent camping season. I spent a few days tent camping at Jimmie Davis State Park in early March, thoroughly enjoying myself.

Hopefully, I will have my little companion, Anthony Gulett, with me on the next camping trip. We are planning a trip during the last week of March 2012 to Chemin-A-Haut State Park. The park is located just north of Bastrop, Louisiana. The park is smaller than Jimmie Davis State Park but is a wonderful place for a young boy to explore and test himself in the wilds of Northeast Louisiana.

We especially like the various hiking trails at Chemin-A-Haut. Usually, Anthony and I spend time each day hiking and taking video and photos. Average distance walked on the trails is approximately one mile. The trails highlight the various plants and animals that are found in Northeast Louisiana.

We will be using our newest social media tool, the New Livestream. Livestream’s web application is event orientated allowing us a wide spectrum of tools including live video, video on demand, photos and text in one application. For those following an event, there are options to received and email and text messages when the event goes live. You may follow our activities at

Director Update

We have been retooling our links page.  The camping season is fast approaching and we wanted to dedicate our links page to our camping and travel adventures in 2012.  Our idle stream will feature a weekly video clip obtained  from the Worship Network.  These clips feature the great outdoors and provide inspirational support to those that come to our site.

Livestream will be used to support the links page.  Yes they have pre-roll ads but they are free and provide features that we need while working in a mobile/portable mode.

We plan to travel during the spring and summer to several Louisiana State parks doing both live and taped video clips from each park.  Scripting is still being developed.  All trips will be announced on the links page.

We will tent camp but also may use a small camping trailer for transporting our video and computer equipment.  I will be providing more information on the camping trailer development in our next Director's Update.

Director Update

What is new at Jericho Christian Television? The most significant thing that has happened is that the Lord has made a way for us to stream our programming without the need for pre-roll and mid-stream commercials. Praise the Lord for His provision. We pray daily that our Lord Jesus Christ will continue to provide the resources needed by Jericho Christian Television and that each of our staff will have the wisdom to use those resources to enlarge the Kingdom.

We at Jericho Christian Television have always opposed the idea of having pre-roll and mid-stream commercials that are inserted by persons and/or companies that may not have our same vision. Case in point is the CDN provider, Livestream. In order to use their free streaming services, Jericho Christian Television had to agree to having pre-roll commercials. Some of these commercials had no place on Christian Internet Broadcasting. In the way of example, viewers coming to our site were being greeted with commercials for Jack Daniels Whiskey before they could watch the Live Sunday Morning Services of First Baptist Church of West Monroe, Louisiana.

Our goal at Jericho Christian Television has always been and always will be to promote healthy Christian and Family values instead of being driven by secular values. Our staff always will take the High Road and follow our Lord Jesus Christ when faced with these decisions.

Director's Update

Jericho Christian Television has returned to the Internet Broadcasting of Legacy Television. Viewers can find Legacy TV on our Internet Broadcast Ch-2. Some of our faithful viewers might have noticed that we had replaced Legacy Television with the Voice Network. The Voice Network is also located in West Monroe, Louisiana. The broadcast facilities of the Voice Network were destroyed by flooding during a recent storm. Sonrise Communications (KWMS TV-17), First West and Jericho Christian Television made our facilities available to help a local network and ministry partner. until such time as their facilities could be rebuilt.

The spring and beginning of summer of 2011 have been extremely difficult in Northeast Louisiana for camping. Well in advance of summer, temperatures soared into triple digits. Lack of rain has brought drought to Northeast Louisiana. The threat of wildfires such as those occurring in Arizona, New Mexico and Texas has forced a burn band across most of Louisiana. In Ouachita Parish all outdoor burning is prohibited. The extremes in temperature and drought has made for a difficult year for sharing my passion for the great outdoors. I have been able to make only two camping trips to Louisiana State Parks thus far this spring and summer.

My most recent trip was to Chemin A Haut State Park. I spent four days in the park with my little camping buddy, Anthony. Afternoon temperatures were over 100 degrees each afternoon. The swimming pool at the park was closed. The fishing lake had been drained a couple of years ago and is only partially refilled. Nevertheless, we had a wonderful time together. Anthony is eight and everything was a new experience for him. We cooked eggs and sausages for breakfast. Anthony tried his skilled at cooking pancakes. We streamed video and posted pictures to Facebook.

Most important, we read in our Bibles and talked about the love of our Lord Jesus Christ. We prayed together for our family and friends. I always feel closer to the Lord when I am camping. The troubles and distractions of this world seem to fade letting the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ to shine.

Jericho Christian Television now Broadcasting Legacy TV 24/7

We are excited that we have been blessed to include the programming of Legacy TV on the website of Jericho Christian Television.  Viewers will note that we are using Livestream as the streaming service for Internet Broadcast Channel -- 2.  Livestream has a feature that we are planning to implement in the future.  Using their Livestream Studio Application, we can switch live from a remote locations without the need of personnel in our Master Control.

We will be using these new techniques during a summer of travel that will include camping in various Louisiana and Arkansas State Parks.  Updates will be found in this blog and on the Internet Broadcast Channel -- 2 Show Page.  We would enjoy hearing from those that have an opportunity to view our broadcasts.

We are encouraging those that like the outdoors to consider visiting the State Parks of Louisiana and Arkansas.  There is something for everyone.  For instance, I enjoy hiking and walking the trails.  Every trip is a new and excited adventure.  For those that follow my activities, you know that I love tent camping rather than using a motor home or trailer.  Almost every park has accommodations for both.
